Chapter I.
Reina walked along the dirt path kicking up clouds of dust and dirt as she walked. It wasn?t her fault that the dragon had escaped, she had complained to the elders. It wasn?t even her shift! But no, the elders had to blame her for just about everything. Yet they did! For every little thing that went wrong, she was blamed for it! Reina knew why too. Oh yes, she knew exactly why she was blamed for everything. It was because she hated being cooped up in the palace caring for the livestock and the dragon. Everyone else loved being in the stinkin? palace. Not Reina. Oh, no, quite the opposite as she confided to the dragon each day as she brought it?s meal to it every day. The dragon was actually quite sympathetic. As Reina had been surprised to find, the dragon hated being in the palace, or stink haven as he called it. Which was why when the dragon escaped, she was blamed for putting the escape thoughts in his mind in the first place. Didn?t these so called masters know that no one can ?put thoughts? in a dragon? Especially this one. The dragon was stubborn as a mule. Smiling a little, Reina remembered all the long heated arguments that she looked forward to having at the end of the day with the dragon. Suddenly, a hunting horn sounded in the distance. Reina was startled out of her musings. She looked up at the sky. The dragon was there soaring down to earth. Reina watched with her mouth hanging open until the dragon commented in her mind that she looked like a gawping cow. Hunters blew their horns and the masters hurried out to try to restrain the dragon. The dragon lowered his wing to the ground and his voice resounded in Reina?s head. Come on! This is your chance to be free! Come with me! He said urgently. Glancing at the approaching hunters, Reina clambered up onto the dragon?s back and yelled as the ground disappeared beneath her. Grinning, she waved at the maddened hunters and masters. Then she held onto the dragon?s neck for the ride. |

Chapter II
Reina was asleep when the dragon finally landed. It had been 12 hours since they had escaped the masters and the hunters. Gently the dragon deposited Reina on the ground. Reina yawned and blearily opened her eyes. "Where are we?" she asked rubbing the sleep from her eyes. "We're near the ocean, my dear Dragon Child," the dragon answered, his blue eyes scanning the night. "What's the ocean?" Reina asked. "You'll see tomorrow. Trust me. You'll like it." "I want to see it now though!" Reina said impatiently. "Patience is a virtue young one," the dragon said sounding uncannily like the masters. "But... Wait a minute... I don't even know your name!" Reina exclaimed. "My name is too long and difficult for humans to pronounce... But you can call me Cor." "Cor... That's an odd name... Well, I shouldn't be talking... My name's pretty out there too, isn't it?" "No no no... No names are strange and weird! Because normal is a term used lightly and there is no such thing as a normal name." "Interesting... So when do we see the ocean?" "Tomorrow, my dear Dragon Child, we will see the ocean. Now get some rest." Cor tucked Reina under his wing and fell asleep. Reina quickly fell asleep not once wondering why he had called her "my dear Dragon Child." ((oh and they were mind speaking)) |

Chapter III
Reina blearily opened her eyes to a mass of blue wing covering her. She tapped on Cor's wing. Cor lifted his wing and allowed the girl to clamber out. Reina would have tried an attempt at a conversation but the dragon seemed a little out of it. Shrugging, she grabbed her bow and arrow that she had grabbed when she had climbed on to the dragon in the first place. A low hum in her thoughts stopped her in her tracks. Don't bother. I will hunt for us. You stay and watch camp. Cor's voice resounded in her head. The dragon silently took flight, being careful to stay close to the ground. A few minutes later, the dragon returned with an unidentified animal in its mouth. Show off. Reina accused teasingly. Cor dropped the animal on the ground and gathered its muscles to pounce. Reina laughed and sprang out of the way. In the masters' house, they had played this many times. Laughing, they ran around and played what Cor called tag. Reina didn't care what it was called. She just had fun playing it. Around and around they ran, finally collapsing on the ground with laughter. It was strange to see a dragon laugh, Reina thought. Not so much as strange as you. Cor said in her mind. Oh, stop it! Reina thought. At least I'm not the one with a girl hanging off their tail. Cor looked at her confused. Think fast!!! Reina thought jumping onto Cor's long tail. With a roar that subsided into a laugh, Cor chased his tail in circles while Reina held on tight. Finally, Cor sat down and thought, Okay, you win! I give up. Now, you get a fire going, and I'll prepare our meal. Reina and Cor busied themselves with their chores and soon they had a meal prepared before them. They ate ravenously to stuff themselves for the journey to the ocean Cor had talked about. Now, hop on and hold on tight. We'll stop for a break in the afternoon. Cor thought, pushing away all traces of camp with his tail. Reina hopped on and buried her face in Cor's neck for the flight. It was going to be a long one. ---- I'm glad you like it!

Chapter IV
Reina looked down at forest as Cor flew over it with her on his back. They had been traveling for 2 hours and Reina had not stopped enjoying this new freedom to fly, even if it was just on Cor's back. During the 2 hours, Reina had found out that Cor was a water dragon instead of a fire dragon like she had previously thought. But aren't you a fire dragon? Reina had asked. Of course not! Fire dragons are not the colour blue. I am a water dragon. Cor had said proudly. Is that why you want to go to this so called ocean? she had asked. You'll see. Now how about a mind game or two? Cor had replied avoiding the question. They had not bothered to fly low, as they were far from civilization. Or so they thought. An arrow flew by, disturbing Reina's musings. She screamed when Cor looped in the air. All she could do was hope for the best and hold on tight. A flurry of arrows whizzed past and Cor performed a series of evasive loops, corkscrews, and spins. During all this, Reina noticed her hands were becoming sweaty. "COR!!!!!" she screamed as she fell off. The dragon roared a savage cry and dove after her but the flurry of arrows stopped him from flying to the rescue. Reina could only scream as she fell through the trees into a camp below. She landed on the ground and heard a crack as some bones snapped. She last remembered a young soldier coming near as a rib poked through her skin. Then she fainted in all her blood and gore. ------ too disgusting?

Chapter V
A loud roaring resounded in her ears. Reina woke with a start wincing as her ribs poked around. Her hands had been tied together and a healer was working on her ribs. The roaring continued. Reina looked around but could not pinpoint the source. Then she realized that the roaring was sounding inside her head and that could mean only one thing: Cor was trying to contact her. Cor? She asked tentatively. Finally! Are you okay? Cor?s worry sounded in his thoughts. Well, a healer is working on my busted ribs but I think I?m captured. How about you? What happened up there? When you fell, the archers kept shooting at me so I had to fly into the clouds to lose them. An hour later, they left and I flew to a clearing and landed. I?m hiding in a cave right now. Good, you?re safe. Now, where am I? I really don?t know. All I could see was that a young soldier came and carried you back to their camp. I couldn?t see what happened next. Okay. Most likely, I?m captured. I?ll try to find out what happened and as soon as I do, I?ll contact you. Be careful. Cor said relinquishing the contact. The healer muttered a few more words and the wound closed and her ribs bound together a little more. At least, they weren?t poking through her skin. ?Excuse me, ma?am, but where am I?? Reina asked the healer politely. ?Ah. So you can talk,? the healer said. ?Come with me.? The healer led her through the camp to a large tent with an army crest on the front. Reina suddenly got a bad feeling as the healer pulled Reina into the tent after her. The tent was richly decorated. A man and the soldier that had captured her stood in the middle. The healer pushed Reina towards them, and then bowed her way out the door. Reina looked around in anticipation. For some reason, this tent made her feel apprehensive. The man cleared his throat. ?So you are the girl who fell from the dragon?s back,? the man said in a deep voice. ?My young soldier found you lying in a pool of blood with a rib poking out of your skin. You can thank him for your direct transfer to the healer.? ?Excuse me for asking but I don?t see I should thank you for tying me up and taking me prisoner,? Reina said defensively. She didn?t like how this was going at all. The man laughed. ?Now, about tying you up. We?re truly sorry, but we have to because since you fell off a dragon?? the man shrugged. ?Well, that?s just how it works. Soldier, take her away.? The man turned away to the wall as a signal for the young soldier next to him to pull Reina out of the tent. Once out of the tent, Reina pulled away and said fiercely, ?Who are you and what?s going on? Your commander was not the least bit of help at all!? The young soldier glanced at the tent and shrugged. ?Well I guess I could tell you a bit. My name is Grant. You were captured mainly because the rule is that if you see a dragon, you shoot it down. If you see its rider, capture him/her. That rule was passed a while ago but Commander Zan still goes by it. Rather stupid isn?t it? I mean, what harm could you do?? Reina sighed. So she was stuck. ?I couldn?t do much, that?s for sure.? At least, not till Cor gets here, she thought. They walked in silence until they got to a large pole on the outskirts of the tent. Grant tied her hands to the pole with chains and left to go into the camp. Reina slumped dejectedly on the ground. There was no way out? for now. ------ glad you like it!
