The Dragonlance series is a great book series. It was made by Margrat Weis.

A series entitled The Cloudmages is also really good. It's by S.L. Farrell...
It doesn't have much to do about dragons thus far (i've only read the first one; there's three in the series), but it is worth reading!

It's complicated.
Basically, there's lights in the sky called mage-lights, but they've disappeared and they haven't been seen in a long time. But suddenly, they start to reappear again because the main character--Jenna--found the master stone that calls the lights back into existence. The problem is, everyone else wants to be the Holder of the master stone, so they're all chasing after Jenna, trying to take it from her. There's a lot more to it than that, but that's the basic idea.

------ Another great fantasy series: The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan. Once again, it's not really about dragons, but it is one of the best fantasy series out there.
