lizards, if you just look at a komodo, I mean they look sort of dragonish.

If you were to ask me, I would say that the Komodo Dragon is what many people now a days refer to as the basilisk. Sure, the myth is that the basilisk had six legs and could turn people to stone with their gaze, but think about it for a moment: if you saw a Komodo Dragon and didn't know what the hell it was at first, you'd start thinking things happened that really didn't. Then, of course, there is the possibility that the basilisk simply devolved, as many creatures have over the millions of years, and is now our lovely Komodo Dragon.
